It’s not my aim to preach, but sometimes we forget about simplicity and how easily we can access some outside time with our kids. My youngest is quite outside ‘averse’ to put it eloquently – So here’s reminders why outdoor play is so important in our day to day:
Physical Health: Outdoor activities like biking, running, or even exploring nature boost children’s physical fitness and reduce the risk of obesity.
Mental Health: Nature has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in both children and adults. Time spent outdoors improves mood and fosters a sense of calm. We all know a seafront or trip down to the park actually helps us feel better.
Boosts Creativity: The outdoors allows children to explore, imagine, and create new games, helping develop their problem-solving skills and creativity.
Builds Resilience: Playing outdoors often comes with challenges—whether it’s climbing a tree or navigating uneven terrain. These small hurdles build a sense of resilience in children.
Encourages Environmental Awareness: Time spent in nature encourages children to develop a love and appreciation for the environment, sparking an interest in sustainability and conservation.
Making outdoor play a daily habit, and you’ll see your child thrive physically, emotionally, and creatively. Good luck – I know personally its not always an easy task.
